Tree Day
There's no way of verifying, but this may have been the smoothest tree purchasing and setup day ever.
Immediately after church we went to Home Depot. After pulling only two trees out of the rack to stand up and apply a TSA style pat down, we'd found our Christmas tree. Then, drag tree to truck. Drag tree in house. Stick tree in stand. Katie gives tree thumbs up. Wait! Where's her carpenter's level? No lean it this way - turn it that way? No thoughtful or unthoughtful consideration given to taking the tree back and getting a straighter, taller, fuller one? If ever there was a place to stick in the social media kingpen, SMH, this is it. But I did not complain. We had a tree ready to decorate. Now, Katie and the boys and Fritz - and no, I will not add Fritz to the "boys" category - needed an afternoon nap time before they were rested enough to tackle tree decorating. This really boiled down to Katie needing some snuggle time with Fritz after a long weekend of work and play. But by dinner time, we had a decorated tree. Someday, likely as soon as next year, I will feverishly search for this post to remind me this process can go smoothly. For this year, though, I'll simply rejoice.
Fritz, this is a Christmas tree.
Ian reflects over an ornament he made in pre-school.
And then proudly shares it with the world. Or at least my world.
Dad, why do we have a chipmunk on our Christmas tree?
Because he was on my very first Christmas tree when I was a baby.
Does this make you feel better about my ornament collection?
I mean at least I'm not hanging pictures of myself on our tree!!
There's something magical about watching these guys decorate a Christmas tree.
There's something magical about family.
