The First Day Of Advent - 2013

Elliott told me the other day he wished every day between now and Christmas only lasted one second.  I imagine that's a popular sentiment among children this time of the year.  I told Elliott that was the excitement of Christmas - the anticipation.  I explained that's what helps us relate to the first generations of people who for thousands of years anticipated the arrival of a savior.  It's our way of walking in the steps of wise men following a star to find the Christ child in a manger.

It's also a reminder of the excitement we can feel anticipating the day Christ will come again. There are many days I'm like Elliott, waiting for that day and often wishing every day between now and then would last one second.

The opportunity to share in ancient anticipation and have our boys' excitement be a reminder I can feel of a glorious day to come, makes this season of advent my favorite time of the year.

Over the next month I'll share my thoughts as our family looks forward to celebrating the birth of Christ.

Yesterday was all about putting up the tree:
