The Sound Of "Everything Looks Good"

It is difficult to refrain from worrying about an unborn child. At least early on, you can't see him, you can't hear him and you sure can't ask him if he needs anything. As he grows a little, he'll begin to give mama an occasional swift kick for reassurance. But until then, you gratefully receive the encouraging updates from the doctor that signal all is well and progressing as it should.

We could hear the heartbeat today and it was pleasantly slow. Pleasant that is for fan's of Elliott having a little brother. The old wives tale says if the heartbeat is under 160 - today it was 144 - then its a baby boy. Above that would obviously indicate a girl. Now in all fairness, for those wanting Katie to have the opportunity to play with pink dresses and hairpins, the heartbeat was over 160 the last visit, so maybe her little girl was just taking a bit of an afternoon nap today. It is fun to guess and predict, but we trust God will grow our family as he sees fit and provide us with the strength we need to be good parents and Elliott a good brother.

Mama's strength should be increasing with the addition of a few extra pounds. Her weight had remained fairly stable, even dropping a tad early on in response to the unwillingness of food to accept her as a suitable dwelling. It would drop by for an occasional visit, but didn't stay long before running off, often quickly and unannounced. But lately, the Subway Chicken Teriyaki sub has found her to be quite a comfortable habitat. Turns out the tasty sub has a very large family and many of them have taken up residence where other food families before them couldn't survive. Mama has gladly begun to expand to accommodate her new friends. Hmmm... putting on the pounds to please the doctor on a diet of subway sandwiches. I'm not sure this would sit well with Jared.

Today provided plenty to be grateful for.
