Dear Megsmilers,
For the past two years I've written an Advent season series on my blog. Advent is observed in many Western churches as a time of preparation and hope for Christmas day. Each day of Advent I posted an article about Christmas. I reflected on family traditions, songs, shows, and personal thoughts that helped me stay focused on the true meaning of Christmas, and pointed me with hope and excitement toward Christmas day. I think we're all aware this Advent season will be particularly tough for the Cross and Menzies families. Where many of us will see hope and excitement, they will see reminders of something missing. That sobering realization got me to thinking. How could we use this blog to help them in some small way? Here's what I came up with. Each day of Advent (November 30 - December 25), I'd like to use your stories about how Meg has changed your life this year, or where you've witnessed it changing someone else's. You send me your words; I post them here for everyone to read and share and celebrate. My hope is that as Meg's family bears the sadness of her absence over the holidays, they'll somehow feel her presence in reading our stories of life and hope. I've shared often this year Meg's death has drawn me closer to God. It's my hope her story has done that for everyone. I also understand and deeply respect that we all don't come from the same place with out faith. I say that to make sure everyone knows that, yes, this is an Advent series, but your stories of life changes and hope don't have to reflect a spiritual or Christian change in your life. Maybe you've discovered strength you never knew you had. Maybe you spend more time with your wife and kids. Maybe you've decided you want to be healthier so you run further and faster. Maybe you had a first in your life. Maybe you conquered a struggle. Your story doesn't have to look like mine or anyone else's. You just have to point to Meg's life as a reason you've had or seen hope brought to someone else's. My goal is to to share every story of hope I receive. It's possible each day of advent will contain multiple stories. To help me include everyone please share your stories as condensed as possible. I've created a special button at the top of this blog that says: "Share your advent stories." If you push that button you'll be lead to a form that will allow you to share you story. I hope to post the first stories on the first day of Advent this coming Sunday, so the sooner you can begin sharing your stories the better. Thank you so much in advance for sharing. Sharing your stories. Sharing Megs love which lives as strongly today as it ever has. Keith P.S. - the entire series of Advent Posts can be found at the link below: A Megsmiles Advent Series
